About Us

The Quinte Canadian FilmFest (QCFF) is presented by Cinema Quinte, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and encouraging local filmmakers and helping to build a modern film industry in the Bay of Quinte Region. Cinema Quinte is engaging our next generation of filmmakers with this festival by providing opportunities to develop their skills and career aspirations close to home.

QCFF has its roots in The Movie Years Today Film Festival, a locally-focused film festival which ran from 2013-2015. The festival showcased locally-produced film and video projects for the general public in our community. This grassroots movement has grown from a single afternoon screening of eight short films in 2013 to an entire week-long festival screening over 30 films both feature and short, all of which were produced in the local area.

Trenton has a rich film history and was once known as the "Hollywood of the North". Ontario’s first large film studio was established here in 1917 and until 1934, Trenton was the centre of film production in the province. With a rebranding and fresh launch under the new name "Quinte Canadian FilmFest", this year's festival will mark and celebrate the 100 year anniversary of our community's unique historic ties to the Canadian Film Industry.

The inaugural 2017 Quinte Canadian FilmFest will showcase the best in local and Canadian film projects over a three-day period, promoting and exhibiting our local filmmakers and their work as well as providing opportunities for our general public and filmmakers to connect at the festival.

The festival will be held in the City of Quinte West (Trenton) from September 29 to October 1,m 2017.

The festival will feature film screenings in several venues in Quinte West, accompanied by an opening gala reception, red carpet interviews with filmmakers and dignitaries, a filmmakers’ reception, Q&A sessions following several screenings, and a filmmakers’ panel discussion. To help fulfill Cinema Quinte’s mandate to support the development of the local film industry, the festival will include workshops for our local filmmakers to participate and develop their skills.
